Employers in the Maldives must update the biometrics of foreign workers before the stipulated deadlines to avoid suspension from the Expat system and potential deportation.
The government has set 1 March 2025 as the deadline for updating the biometrics of foreign workers employed in residential areas, with the process to be carried out in collaboration with local councils. For those working in resorts, safaris, agricultural islands, and other industrial islands, the deadline is 15 April 2025. Employers are required to contact the Joint Operations Centre at the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), the site where the foreign employee works, or the nearest council office for assistance.
The final deadline for updating the biometrics (fingerprints and photographs) of all foreign workers in the Maldives is 20 April 2025. Failure to comply within the given timeframe will result in suspension from the Expat system, service interruptions, and deportation.
