Delays Reported in Reconstruction of Izzuddeen Jetty
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported delays in reconstructing the Izzuddeen Jetty, also known as the President’s Jetty, due to challenges in importing necessary materials from abroad.
Despite these claims, local observations suggest that progress has significantly slowed in recent days. The jetty’s roofing has been dismantled for several days, with no visible work being conducted on-site.
MTCC commenced the reconstruction project in early May, having been contracted by the government for MVR 11.7 billion under a design and build agreement. The project aims to restore the jetty to its 1950s design.
The Izzuddeen Jetty, which was officially inaugurated on 26 July 2015, has undergone repairs on two previous occasions, with the most recent renovation completed in 2017.
