Dengue fever cases rose in December 2025, while influenza-like illness (ILI) and diarrhoeal disease cases declined, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported.
The HPA recorded 413 dengue cases in December, up from 382 in November and 70 in December 2024. The agency urged residents to prevent mosquito bites by using repellents, wearing long sleeves, and keeping homes free of stagnant water. Those suspected of having dengue should rest, stay hydrated, and use paracetamol, seeking medical attention if severe symptoms occur.
ILI cases fell to 28,619 in December from 32,859 in November, with 152 positive influenza cases confirmed from 560 samples. The HPA advised practising good respiratory hygiene, avoiding crowded places when unwell, and vaccinating vulnerable groups.
Acute diarrhoeal cases dropped to 2,931 in December from 4,102 in November but remained above the 2,590 cases recorded in December 2024. The HPA highlighted the importance of handwashing, safe food and water practices, and seeking care for severe or persistent symptoms, especially among children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
