Detained Individuals in Election Cases Released, Says Police

All three individuals previously detained in connection with incidents surrounding yesterday’s parliamentary election have been released, according to a statement from the Maldives Police Service.

Under the auspices of Operation Blue Tide, a special police initiative implemented for the elections, three individuals were apprehended during the polling hours of 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The Police announced via a social media post on X last night that all three detainees have since been released.

Reportedly, one individual was taken into custody in Male’ for allegedly displaying their ballot paper, while the remaining two were arrested in Fiyoaree for causing disruption and disturbance at a polling station on the island.

No further disturbances have been reported elsewhere.

The parliamentary election, which transpired without significant incident, saw the ruling PNC secure a supermajority.
