Dhiraagu Celebrates International Women’s Day with a Special Networking Event

Dhiraagu celebrated International Women’s Day 2024 with a special networking event, held at Dhiraagu Head Office last Thursday together with the company’s staff and key women figures from different fields.

The event followed the ‘Lean In Circle’ networking group method which was adopted by the company as a mentoring programme for their women staff, as part of their Gender Action Plan. As such, the main purpose of this event was to provide a platform where staff could build connections, share their experiences, and gain insight from each other as well as the special invitees. During the event, Dhiraagu staff in regions as well as special invitees participated in the event virtually.

During the event, an update on the targets achieved from the company’s Gender Action Plan was communicated by Dhiraagu’s CEO & Managing Director, Ismail Rasheed, and Director Legal & Company Secretary, Uza. Hazrath Rasheed Hussain. In line with the commitments, Dhiraagu has recently implemented their Flex Work Policy along with the Returnship Guidelines for all staff.

Additionally, women now make up 46% of junior management roles within the company. Overall, more women now work in technical roles across the company with 5 out of 9 female apprentices of the Dhiraagu Apprentice Programme working in technical roles as well.

The networking event was concluded with a special brunch catered by home-based, women-led business vendors from the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Maldives. Supporting women, especially women-owned businesses, and empowering them to thrive is a key focus area of Dhiraagu’s CSR strategy.

To this end, the company has recently partnered with Business Center Corporation (BCC) to support the Hiyala Weekend Market – a weekly market which provides a platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase their products and sell them to a broader audience.
