Dhiraagu’s 2025 Calendar Pays Tribute to Maldivian Fishing Heritage

MV+ News Desk | December 10, 2025

Dhiraagu has dedicated the December page of its 2025 calendar to Maldivian fishing, celebrating the deep-rooted connection between Maldivians, the ocean, and the country’s enduring fishing traditions. The company has also released a special video honouring this vital part of national culture.

Dhiraagu states the video highlights the determination and courage of Dhivehi ancestors, who built their own vessels to venture into the open sea and mastered the art of catching skipjack tuna, one of the fastest species in the ocean. It also offers insights into the wide range of fish species caught in Maldivian waters through sustainable pole-and-line fishing – a practice that continues to demonstrate the nation’s commitment to responsible fisheries management.

The company states that the Dhiraagu’s 2025 calendar, Minivankan Mathee Abadhah (Forever Independent), marks 60 years of Maldivian independence. Each month features a national symbol that reflects the country’s unique culture, heritage and traditions, highlighting the unity and pride shared across island communities.

According to Dhiraagu, they remain committed to reviving Dhivehi traditions and sharing knowledge of the history and culture that shape the Maldivian national identity.
