Minister of Gender, Family, and Social Services has launch of the digitised Child Sex Offenders Registry.
Developed by the Ministry in collaboration with the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), the registry is now available on the PGO’s ‘Aamahi’ website: https://aamahi.pgo.mv/child-offenders
In a ceremony held at the gender ministry yesterday, the digitisation of this register was unveiled. The Family Protection Authority under the gender ministry highlighted the primary aim of this digitisation – to promptly update information that was previously manually entered and to ensure convenient access for the public, as stated in their official release.
Collaborating with technical support from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the gender ministry intends to facilitate real-time updates. Upon a court issuing a judgment, pertinent information regarding the conviction will be instantly relayed to the ministry.
The current digital format of the list was developed by the IT personnel at the Prosecutor General’s Office, following guidance from the Child and Family Protection Service, allowing for information to be filtered via seven distinct categories.
Gender Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi emphasised the significance of this initial step in digitising the register of child sexual offenders, asserting the necessity to further fortify this effort in collaboration with the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Correctional Service. Minister Didi also underlined the importance of this digitalisation in aiding the affected children and their families.
Prosecutor General Hussein Shameem echoed similar sentiments, describing this digitalisation as an essential initial step, and emphasised the need for consistent and enhanced information dissemination across all relevant institutions.
The ongoing efforts in digitising and updating the register of convicted child sexual offenders signify a step towards more transparent and accessible information in compliance with legislative requirements.
