Discover Airlines has officially resumed flights from Frankfurt, Germany, to Velana International Airport (VIA), the Maldives’ main international gateway.
The inaugural flight was marked by a ceremony at VIA, coinciding with the official opening of Discover Airlines’ check-in counters at the airport’s newly opened passenger terminal.
The airline will operate two weekly flights between Malé and Frankfurt, enhancing connectivity between the Maldives and Europe. Flights will be handled through VIA’s state-of-the-art terminal, which has been accommodating an increasing number of international carriers.
The resumption of services is expected to provide a boost to tourism, as Germany and the wider European market remain key sources of visitors to the Maldives. The United Kingdom is currently the third-largest source of tourists, with 181,300 visitors recorded this year.
With more airlines transitioning to VIA’s new terminal, the Maldives continues to strengthen its position as a leading global travel destination.
