Disruption at Gadhdhoo School Polling Station Brought Under Control, Police says

Voting was disrupted at GDh. Gadhdhoo School today, as a group of individuals attempted to modify a voting booth, claiming it did not ensure the secrecy of the vote.

The Maldives Police Service reported that authorities responded quickly and the situation has since been brought under control. Voting at the polling station is continuing without further incidents.

By 12:00 p.m., a total of 62,083 people, or 21.05 percent of eligible voters, had cast their ballots, the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) said. This included 28,838 women and 33,245 men, while 232,793 people, or 78.95 percent, had yet to vote. Since 10:00 a.m., 20,921 additional voters had participated.

Voting, originally scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m., was delayed at some stations. The ECM confirmed that polling officially began at 9:32 a.m. at all stations, with ballots set to remain open until 4:00 p.m.

A total of 294,876 people are eligible to vote in today’s elections, including 144,506 women and 150,370 men.
