Preliminary results indicate that Dr. Muizzu secured 53.92% of the votes, positioning him in the lead. Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), trailed with 46.08%, as of the latest count of 581 out of 586 vote boxes.
In the initial round of the presidential election held on September 9, Dr. Muizzu emerged as the frontrunner with a significant 46.06% of the vote, while President Solih secured 39.05%, establishing themselves as the primary contenders for the runoff.
The election, held today, saw a total of 282,804 eligible voters participate in the runoff. The voter turnout stood at 86 percent, a notable increase from the 79 percent recorded during the initial round of voting, yet still representing the lowest turnout in a presidential election.
