Dunya Maumoon Returns to PPM

Dunya Maumoon, the daughter of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has officially re-joined the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), during a public gathering organised by the PPM-PNC coalition in Hulhumale.

Dunya Maumoon’s decision to rejoin the PPM was marked by the formal submission of her membership application.
The PNC Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mohammed Muizzu, and PNC President Abdul Raheem Abdullah were present to receive her application.
Dunya Maumoon has a history of political involvement, having previously held positions as the Foreign Minister and State Minister of Health during the tenure of former President Yameen.
Her initial departure from the PPM occurred following the conclusion of President Yameen’s administration.
In 2021, she joined the Maldives National Party (MNP), which was led by Colonel Nazim.
This return to the PPM by Dunya Maumoon comes after her former party, the MNP, decided to throw its support behind the PNC presidential candidate in the second round of the forthcoming presidential election.
