Dusit Thani Maldives and the soon-to-open dusitD2 Feydhoo Maldives partnered with Moms Aid to provide care packages for the needy during Ramadan.
In a ceremony held at Salt Cafe’ on Thursday, the two resorts provided financial assistance to Moms Aid to ensure 178 families will receive care packages this Ramadan. The event was inaugurated by Jean-Louis Ripoche, Area General Manager of Dusit Resorts in the Maldives, and Mauroof Mohamed, Cluster Director of Human Resources.
“Mothers are the foundation of any family. We are honoured to contribute to this initiative, ensuring that families across the Maldives,” Jean-Louis Ripoche said during his address at the event, according to the company.
Over 200 Care Packages Delivered
Under the campaign launched initially in 2020, Moms Aid has already delivered over 200 care packages this year.
NGO Moms Aid’s mission is to eradicate poverty and provide assistance to the needy through immediate and long-term initiatives. As part of their campaign for Ramadan, they started distributing care packages for the families registered with them last Thursday, and over 200 packages have been distributed.
Fathimath Riyasa, Executive Director of the NGO and current General Secretary of the Executive Committee said they currently have approximately 300 families registered with the NGO.
“Some of the packages go to families from [rural] islands, and so arrangements are being made to send them over as well, as per the boat schedules,” she said.
The care packages include food essentials commonly used in Maldivian homes during Ramadan. Riyasa explained that they aimed to keep the value of each package around MVR 1,200, but thanks to generous donations, this year’s packages are worth MVR 2,000.
She noted that they receive over 10 applications daily for inclusion in their care list. To ensure support reaches those most in need, the organisation conducts a thorough vetting process, reviewing bank statements and checking whether applicants receive aid from other organisations or the state.
Riyasa expressed gratitude to the organisation’s donors, which include ministries, companies, and individual citizens. She encouraged interested donors to find their details on the NGO’s social media and website.
Who Receives the Care Packages?
Riyasa said the Ramadan care packages are being distributed to families not registered on their care list as well.
“Sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, people struggle to make ends meet for a particular month. While we prioritise families on our care list, we have been able to help even more people this year due to generous donations,” Riyasa explained.
Last Ramadan, the organisation provided care packages to around 800 to 1,000 families. This year, they aim to support even more.
Additionally, they plan to distribute “iftar packs” this year too, containing enough food items for a family to prepare a proper iftar meal. Riyasa said the distribution will be carried out in collaboration with their administrative staff across the Maldives’ islands.
She encouraged the public to reach out if they know someone in need of assistance during Ramadan.
“Once we complete our verification, we will provide the necessary aid,” she assured.
