Earthquake in Mid-Indian Ridge Poses No Threat to Maldives, Says MET Office
The earthquake took place at around 9:55am this morning.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has confirmed that an earthquake measuring magnitude 5.3 occurred earlier today in the Mid-Indian Ridge, approximately 2,553 kilometres from Addu City.
According to MET, the earthquake took place at around 9:55am. Authorities noted that the distance of the earthquake’s epicentre from the Maldives means there is no direct threat to the country.

The MET office reassured the public that no impacts are expected and that the situation continues to be monitored.
