The polling stations will remain open until 4:00 PM on the same day.
Fuad also clarified that individuals already in the queue at the time of the polling stations’ closure will still have the opportunity to cast their votes.
This electoral event is expected to witness a substantial eligible voting population of 282,395 individuals scattered across various regions of the Maldives.
To accommodate this large voter base, a total of 574 polling stations will be established not only within the Maldives but also in five other countries.
This election signifies a significant milestone, as it features the highest number of candidates competing for the presidency since the introduction of the multi-party system. Specifically, there are eight candidates in contention for the presidential election, comprising five candidates from political parties and three independent candidates.
The initial round of voting is slated for September 9, with a potential second round scheduled for September 30.
