ECM Commences Re-registration, Deadline Tomorrow

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has commenced accepting re-registration applications for the upcoming second round of the presidential election, with a deadline of 04:00pm on September 17 for individuals seeking to change their voting location.

Applicants have the option to submit their re-registration forms through the designated online portal or by visiting either the election headquarters situated in the Dharubaaruge in the capital, Male’ City, or the local council office on their respective island.

The re-registration application forms can be obtained at the central election headquarters, ECM’s official website, and local council offices. Online re-registration applications must be accompanied by an official document confirming the individual’s identity.

To verify the voting station location via online visit pprvr.elections.gov.mv or via SMS, send VR (space) NID.no SMS to 1414.
ECM also stated that they will be reaching out to a significant number of applicants to ensure the legitimacy of their re-registration application forms. Additionally, the ECM has affirmed its intention to address any cases of individuals submitting invalid forms.
Ismail Habeeb, Vice Chairman of the ECM, confirmed that the ECM had processed over 9,000 re-registration forms in a single day. Of these, more than 7,000 were submitted online, highlighting the growing preference for online participation in the electoral process.
Re-registration commenced promptly at 03:00 pm yesterday and is scheduled to continue until 04:00 pm tomorrow. In the capital city of Male’, physical forms can be obtained and submitted at the Election Centre, Dharubaruge. For citizens residing abroad, the ECM has provided an online portal for convenient re-registration.
Furthermore, those wishing to re-register from overseas can also obtain and submit forms through their respective embassies.
The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 30, following the absence of any candidate securing 50% of the votes during the initial round.
The two candidates who have advanced to the second round are Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, representing the opposition People’s National Congress (PNC), and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
