Campaign banners and flags have been prohibited from being displayed near the election headquarters and the main office of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).

In an announcement, ECM has called upon all political parties to adhere to this directive and refrain from placing campaign banners, flags, and other promotional materials in close proximity to the main election headquarters, the Dharubaaruge convention centre, the ECM main office, and the surrounding streets.

The request extends to the public as well, with ECM urging citizens not to exhibit campaign flags, banners, and posters affiliated with any political party or candidate in front of the designated locations. Furthermore, those campaign items that are currently in place have been instructed to be taken down promptly.

In a bid to maintain orderly campaigning practices, ECM has gone a step further by encouraging candidates and parties to secure necessary permissions from local councils or property owners before distributing, posting, or affixing campaign materials in both public spaces and privately-owned buildings.

This proactive measure is intended to ensure that campaign-related activities are conducted with due consideration for local regulations and private property rights.
