The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has published the revised registry of broadcasters and media outlets eligible to vote in the upcoming Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission elections in the Government Gazette.
The Media and Broadcasting Commission will consist of seven members, with four elected by the media and three appointed by Parliament. Under the newly enforced Media Commission Act, all members must be appointed by 17 October. In line with this timeline, the election has been scheduled for 11 October.
The ECM is preparing for the election of members representing the media. The updated registry was gazetted following the resolution of complaints submitted to the Commission.
As part of the revisions, 18 individuals have been removed from the registry, while 64 media outlets and broadcasters have been added. The updated list is included in the Gazette notice.
Complaints regarding the registry can be submitted until 10 p.m. on 2 October. Complaints must be filed using the designated form, available on the ECM website and at the Commission office, and completed forms can be submitted via email.
Applications for the Parliamentary appointments to the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission are also currently open.
