The latest session took place in Hanimaadhoo, located in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The initiative seeks to familiarise the public with the democratic system and encourage greater participation in the electoral process. According to the commission, the programme is designed to raise awareness about the purpose of elections and the overall electoral framework.
Participants are being introduced to a range of topics, including the foundations of democracy, the three branches of government, and the importance of rights, participation, and nationalism. The programme also addresses themes such as responsibility and accountability, the conduct of elections, and the principles of the multi-party system.
The session in Hanimaadhoo was attended by representatives from government institutions, companies, associations, political parties, as well as members of the general public.
The Elections Commission had previously organised a similar civic education programme in May this year in Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll.
