The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) concluded a training program in Mamigili held yesterday, aimed at increasing the awareness of visually impaired individuals about ballot papers and marking methods.

The training program has garnered positive feedback from participants, according to the ECM. The use of a designated template has been noted to facilitate voting for visually impaired individuals.

ECM is scheduled to begin additional training sessions in ADh. Fenfushi and ADh. Omadhoo today.

In addition to this, ECM is preparing to extend its training efforts to HDh. and GDh. Atolls by sending teams out today.

The Parliament passed a bill in June, which received unanimous approval from MPs present, to allow those with visual impairments to use a specially designed ballot paper template should they prefer to vote without assistance.

This move came after the blind and visually impaired community raised concerns regarding the lack of secrecy in the voting process.
