The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced the commencement of a public complaint period regarding registered ballot boxes for the local council elections scheduled for 4 April.
The complaint window enables eligible voters to review and challenge their designated polling station details to ensure the accuracy of the voting process. The registry covers the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, as well as the Public Referendum 2026, and is now open for submissions.
The Commission has set a deadline of 4 March at 1:30 pm for all complaints. Voters who identify discrepancies in their assigned ballot box location have been advised to submit complaints online through the Commission’s main portal.
To assist with verification, voters can check their registration details via SMS by texting 1414 or by accessing the dedicated registration portal.
An updated voter registry released by the Commission confirms that 294,937 individuals are eligible to vote, including 144,527 women and 150,410 men. A total of 26,454 people have completed re-registration for the upcoming elections. As a result of sufficient registered voter numbers, 21 resorts have qualified to host their own polling stations.
The 4 April elections will see 2,960 candidates contesting 626 island councillor positions and 52 city councillor positions, alongside an equal number of seats for Women’s Development Committees.
