The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has received 746 complaints related to the voter list.

ECM’s Vice Chairperson, Ismail Habeeb, revealed that the majority of these complaints, totaling 450, were centred around changes in voters’ addresses.

Addressing the concerns raised by the electorate, 225 complaints were reported regarding the inclusion of deceased individuals on the voter list, while an additional 40 complaints were received regarding changes in voters’ constituencies.

Moreover, five complaints were filed by eligible voters who claimed non-inclusion of their names, and one complaint was registered concerning alterations in the information on ID cards.

The parliamentary election, scheduled for March 17th, coincides with the holy month of Ramadan. A total of 287,327 people, comprising 145,162 men and 139,165 women, are eligible to cast their votes in this crucial electoral process.

This election will determine the members of the 20th parliament, with representatives being elected for 96 constituencies. In an effort to ensure inclusivity, the ECM has facilitated the registration of visually impaired individuals to vote independently, without requiring assistance.

As the electoral process unfolds, the ECM continues to address and investigate the concerns raised by voters, maintaining a commitment to a fair and transparent parliamentary election.
