The Elections Commission of Maldives has announced the recruitment of 77 employees to support preparations for the April local council elections and the referendum on merging presidential and parliamentary elections.
Maldivians are scheduled to vote on 4 April to elect members of local councils and women’s development committees. Voters will also decide whether the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections should be combined into a single vote.
The Commission stated that the positions are being offered on a contract basis to manage various election-related functions. The vacancies include 40 officers, 26 senior officers, two maintenance officers, two logistics officers, one graphic designer, five technical officers and one senior officer assigned as a photographer. The contracts will remain in effect until the completion of the election and referendum processes.
According to the Commission, officers will receive a basic salary of MVR 4,465, a service allowance of MVR 1,500 and MVR 155 for each day of attendance. Senior officers will receive a basic salary of MVR 7,610 and MVR 170 per day.
Interested applicants are required to submit their application forms to the Commission’s reception or via email before 15:00 on Tuesday. Applicants submitting forms by email must confirm receipt by telephone. All required documents must be attached as a single file not exceeding 10 MB. Application forms are available at the Commission’s reception and on its official website.
Last year, the Commission estimated that the council elections would cost MVR 80 million. It later stated that an additional MVR 20 million would be required if the referendum is conducted on the same day. The government has sought public opinion on merging the two national elections, stating that combining them could reduce overall costs.
