The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has released the official questions and information sheet for the upcoming referendum on the jurisdictional composition of Addu City.

The referendum will focus on the constituencies of Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo, as stipulated by a Presidential Decree issued by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The Cabinet approved administrative measures on 5 October to hold a referendum in response to a petition from residents seeking changes to the composition of the Addu City Council. This decision was made in line with the Public Referendum Act, followed by a Presidential Decree the next day to determine the views of residents on the matter. The referendum is scheduled to take place on 25 October 2025.

A subsequent decree issued on Sunday revised the earlier directive, confirming the specific questions to be posed to voters in each constituency. Residents of Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo will each be asked whether a separate council should be established for their respective areas.

The ECM has published the decree, referendum questions, and accompanying information sheet in the Government Gazette. According to the Commission, voting will be open to all registered voters in the designated constituencies and will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the day of the referendum. Results are expected to be announced the following day.
