The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) announced yesterday that 381 candidates have submitted their nominations for the forthcoming parliamentary election within the stipulated time frame.

According to Vice President Ismail Habeeb of ECM, the deadline for filing nominations for the upcoming elections, slated for March 17, was until 14:00 hrs. During this period, a total of 381 candidates submitted nominations for 93 constituencies.

However, the ECM is currently in the process of reviewing some of the applications and intends to reject those that fail to meet the eligibility criteria. Consequently, there remains a possibility that the number of candidates vying in the election may fluctuate.

Due to the ongoing processing of forms, ECMis unable to ascertain which constituency boasts the highest number of candidates contesting for a seat, nor which constituency has the lowest number of contesting candidates.

It is pertinent to note that a total of 284,337 Maldivians are eligible to cast their votes in this election.
