ECM Reports 65 Complaints Regarding Parliamentary Constituencies for 2024 Elections

The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has received a total of 65 complaints and comments regarding the constituency allocation report for the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2024.

Ismail Habeeb, Vice Chairman of the ECM, confirmed that 65 complaints have been submitted in response to the interim report on the population allocation for the 2024 parliamentary constituencies. Notably, the highest number of complaints were registered in the Addu City Feydhoo constituency, where 44 complaints were submitted.

Complaints were also reported in other areas, with a breakdown as follows:

  • Addu City: 7 constituencies – 50 complaints
  • Laamu Atoll: 2 constituencies – 3 complaints
  • Baa Atoll: 4 constituencies – 4 complaints
  • Gaaf Alif Atoll: 3 constituencies – 6 complaints
  • Male’ City: 2 complaints

In response to these concerns, Habeeb stated that the ECM will address the complaints before the 5th of next month.

The 2024 parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place in late March or early April next year, with a possibility of coinciding with the month of Ramadan. 

The ECM has further assured that once the constituencies for the 2024 parliamentary elections are finalised, a list of eligible voters for these constituencies will be prepared and made available to those in need.
