The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has confirmed that it has completed all preparations for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for tomorrow.
ECM President Fuad Thaufeeq stated that the electoral body has successfully fulfilled its responsibilities in terms of recruiting and training election officials. He further revealed that these officials have been efficiently deployed to polling stations both domestically and abroad.
Moreover, President Fuad disclosed that ECM has received a minimal number of complaints related to the electoral process. These concerns were promptly investigated, and appropriate actions were taken to address them.
He also emphasised that the Maldivian police have been readied to maintain security at the polling stations, while the Ministry of Tourism is extending its full support to facilitate the establishment of polling stations at resorts.
In addition to these preparations, Fuad asserted that all state agencies are working diligently to ensure the smooth conduct of the election. The Maldives is set to host a significant number of observers, monitors, and foreign representatives, promising the most transparent presidential election the country has ever witnessed.
An impressive contingent of 1,700 observers and monitors will actively participate in overseeing the electoral process.
This year, a total of 574 polling stations will be strategically placed across the Maldives and five other countries to facilitate the presidential election.
The first round of voting is scheduled for September 9, with the possibility of a second round on September 30 if required. The eligible voting population for the presidential election stands at 282,395, including over 27,000 newly registered voters.
