The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has released the final voters list ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections slated for April 21.

This list, now available in the government gazette and on the ECM’s official website, encompasses individuals who have undertaken re-registration to cast their votes outside their designated island of residence.

As per the final voters list, a total of 284,663 individuals have been deemed eligible to participate in the electoral process. This figure includes 139,361 females and 145,302 males. The upcoming election will witness a competitive field, with 369 candidates contending for representative positions across 93 distinct constituencies.

In light of the re-registration exercise, the ECM has made adjustments to the deployment of voting boxes. A total of 602 voting boxes will be deployed for the election, with 181 slated for placement in Male’, 51 in Hulhumale’, and 9 in Vilimale’. Additionally, 319 boxes will be stationed across various atolls, 34 in resorts, 3 in other countries, and 5 within correctional facilities.

The ECM has clarified that the placement of voting boxes in foreign countries was determined based on the volume of re-registrations from abroad. A minimum threshold of 150 re-registrations was required to warrant the establishment of a ballot box in another country, while 30 re-registrations sufficed for the installation of boxes in resort areas.

Furthermore, voting facilities will be set up in Trivandrum (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to accommodate Maldivian citizens residing in these locations.
