Furthermore, Minister Saeed highlighted President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s initiative, securing a sufficient stockpile to cover the nation’s needs for an entire year, with an additional 10% of essential food provisions sourced from Turkey.

Under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Turkey, Maldives stands to benefit from streamlined import procedures for 35 different commodities from its Middle-Eastern partner.

In efforts to stabilize prices of staple foods and other essentials, the minister outlined collaborative measures with the State Trading Organization (STO). He detailed the formation of a working committee involving ministry and STO officials, operating under the oversight of the President’s Office.

Moreover, Minister Saeed announced forthcoming trade delegations from Maldives to the UK on May 15, 2023, and to Washington, US, on July 10, 2024. These delegations aim to seek guidance and support in enhancing the efficiency of Maldives’ public finance sector over the long term.
