In his address, Dr Shafeeu expressed concern over high illiteracy rates among children under 10, urging for immediate action to address this issue. He referenced the roadmap from the Transforming Education Summit, which advocates for strategic approaches to overcome such challenges, aligning with ICESCO’s educational objectives as well as those of the Maldivian government.
Dr Shafeeu also acknowledged the Maldives’ progress in achieving its primary and secondary educational targets. However, he emphasised that further development is needed in the areas of technology integration and teacher training, stressing that these areas are vital for enhancing overall educational outcomes.
