The Ministry of Education has digitised and published the new academic calendar on its official website, allowing parents, students, and educators easier access to important school dates.

The ministry’s revamped website, launched last year, was designed to consolidate all school-related information in one place. The academic calendar is available in PDF format and now clearly distinguishes school days, holidays, examination periods, and public holidays, making it more convenient for users to plan ahead.

The calendar also allows term dates to be viewed separately. According to the current schedule, schools are set to reopen on 27th January 2026. The mid-term break will run from 24th May to 30th May, followed by the first term break from 17th July to 1st August. The second term will commence on 2nd August, with the mid-term break from 13th to 19th September, and the long year-end holiday from 18th December 2026 to 12th January 2027.

In the new version of the calendar, full school days and half-days are clearly marked. Children’s Day and Teacher’s Day have also been designated as half-days.

The Maldives traditionally began its academic year in January. However, in 2021, the start date was moved to August following requests from the tourism industry and disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This shift extended the academic timeline to one and a half years.

Responding to further requests from parents, the Education Ministry has now decided to return the academic year to its original January start, beginning with the upcoming academic term.
