Education Ministry Opens Applications for First Grade Enrolment

The Ministry of Education has commenced applications for students intending to enrol in first grade for the upcoming academic year. 

In line with established practices from previous years, application forms are now available at schools across the atolls. For those applying to schools in Malé, submissions must be made via an online form: https://myoffice.moe.gov.mv/forms/id/2

The deadline for submitting applications is 6th November 2024. The Ministry has emphasised that no applications will be considered after this date and has urged parents to submit their forms promptly.

In past years, students were eligible for first grade if they had not turned seven by 1st January. However, due to the academic calendar commencing in August, those who turned seven by December were also admitted to first grade over the last two years.

With the current administration’s proposed changes to the academic calendar, the ongoing year will conclude in February 2025, with the next academic year starting on 6th April 2025.

According to a circular released by the Ministry in January regarding student enrolment and transfers, students who turn six by 31st December 2024 but have not yet reached seven will be eligible for first grade next year. Therefore, all students completing Upper Kindergarten (UKG) during the 2024-2025 academic year will join grade one from 6th April 2025.
