More than MVR 620,000 in Zakat donations from the Emirates Red Crescent have been handed over to the Ministry of Social and Family Development to support orphans and underprivileged children under state care.

The ministry of Islamic Affairs said that the funds, provided as Zakat al-Fitr, amount to USD 40,780.44 (MVR 626,795.36). The assistance is intended to help children under state care participate in the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr.

According to the ministry, the donation will be used to purchase Eid clothing for children, distribute food packages, and organise Iftar meals so that children in state care, including those with special needs, can take part in the festive celebrations.

The ministry noted that the contribution highlights the strong and longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates, as well as their shared commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
