Employee Injured in Hulhumalé STELCO Power Station Fire Passes Away

A State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) employee has died while receiving treatment overseas after sustaining severe injuries in a fire at the company’s Hulhumalé power station.

STELCO identified the employee as Ahmed Azmeel, who had worked with the company for 21 years. He was initially treated at Hulhumalé Hospital before being flown to Thailand for further care following the fire on 26 November. According to STELCO, the incident was caused by a technical fault in the switchboard.
In a message shared on social media, STELCO extended its condolences to Azmeel’s family on behalf of its board, management and staff.

President Mohamed Muizzu also issued a statement on X, offering condolences and praying for Azmeel to attain heaven.
