Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that a kanzu kahanbu, an Indian black turtle, was rescued from a street in Malé earlier this week by a passerby.
Following the report, arrangements were made for the turtle’s relocation to the K. Kaashidhoo wetland area, recognised for harboring the largest population of black turtles in the Maldives.

Gratitude was extended to the family who initially rescued and provided temporary care for the black turtle. Additionally, commendation was expressed towards Velaa Express Speedboat for facilitating the transportation and the ongoing support received from the Kaashidhoo Council for their consistent efforts in the rescue and protection of black turtles in the region.
Encouraging responsible action, the EPA emphasised the importance of surrendering any kanzu kahanbu held as pets to the agency. They further urged individuals to promptly report any sightings of stranded black turtles by contacting the dedicated hotline at (+960 7 980379).
