The President-elect’s Office in the Maldives has disclosed that the precise number of Indian military personnel stationed in the country remains unconfirmed, at a press conference held yesterday.
Transitional Spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul confirmed the presence of Indian military personnel but highlighted the lack of definitive information regarding their total numbers.
Firuzul pointed out that while the outgoing government acknowledged the existence of Indian military personnel in the Maldives, details on the exact count have not yet been received.
The efforts to obtain data on the agreements between the Maldives and India have faced hurdles, with Firuzul stating that only certain institutions have cooperated in providing information. He also highlighted concerns regarding the information that has been obtained, indicating ongoing work to address these issues.
Addressing the disclosure of these agreements, Firuzul noted that the current situation does not permit immediate decision-making.
