A temporary farmers’ market has opened at North Harbour in Malé, offering fresh produce sourced directly from island farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare announced.
The market, located at the site formerly occupied by Shot Café, will operate daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and again from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
According to the ministry, the market features fruits and vegetables organised into five colour categories, aimed at promoting balanced nutrition. The produce on sale is expected to provide consumers with essential vitamins and minerals.
The initiative is being rolled out during Ramadan to improve public access to locally grown agricultural products. Authorities said the market will offer produce from seven islands, supplied by 10 farms certified under the Maldives Good Agricultural Practices (MGAP) programme.
