A female teacher has been dismissed for allegedly grooming a male student in a southern island, with the case currently under police investigation.
The allegations, which surfaced last month, involve the teacher allegedly grooming an eighth-grade student. It is understood that the accused teacher was dismissed following an investigation by the Ministry of Education. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the case.
This incident follows a separate case in October, in which a male teacher was accused of grooming multiple students through age-related comments. He was arrested in connection with the allegations and has since been released but referred for prosecution.
Grooming refers to the process by which an individual, often an adult, builds trust and an emotional connection with a minor or vulnerable person to manipulate, exploit, or abuse them. This can involve psychological, emotional, or material manipulation, with the goal of gaining control or preparing the victim for abuse. It may take place online or in person and can involve flattery, gifts, secrecy, isolation, and desensitisation to inappropriate behaviour.
