A new reverse osmosis (RO) plant has been commissioned in Haa Alif Ihavandhoo, doubling the island’s daily water production capacity to 100 tonnes, according to Fenaka Corporation Limited.
The additional 50-tonne-per-day RO plant was connected and brought into service on 16 February as part of the company’s efforts to strengthen sustainable water services across the country. Ihavandhoo previously relied on a single RO plant with a production capacity of 50 tonnes per day.
With the new installation, the island’s total water production capacity has increased to 100 tonnes per day. Fenaka said the upgrade is expected to address earlier difficulties in meeting demand and improve the overall quality and reliability of water supply for residents.
The commissioning forms part of ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing essential utility services in outer islands.
