FENAKA has announced that a 1.8-megawatt generator will be transported to Addu to address ongoing power outages that have persisted for several months, leading to increasing public dissatisfaction.

The company stated that three generator sets at the Central Power Station, which supplies electricity to Hithadhoo and the connected islands, are experiencing technical issues, while another generator has been damaged beyond repair. As a result, the company has struggled to generate sufficient electricity, necessitating periodic power cuts in different areas.

To resolve the issue, FENAKA has sourced a 1.8-megawatt generator through an agreement with the State Electric Company. The generator has been loaded onto a landing craft and is being transported to Addu.

The company also reported that one of the damaged generators has been repaired and is currently in operation, while a second generator is expected to be repaired by the end of the week. The third generator is scheduled for repairs within the coming week, with spare parts being procured from abroad.

FENAKA noted that electricity consumption typically rises during Ramadan, making it essential to address these issues promptly to meet the demand in Addu. The company attributed the current situation to long-term negligence and stated that no significant efforts had been made previously to resolve the matter.

FENAKA has set a target to implement a complete solution to the electricity issues in Addu within one and a half years. The islands connected to Addu have been experiencing frequent power outages since mid-2024.
