The Ministry of Finance has issued a second announcement seeking a building for the operations of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
The ministry has stated that the building will be required for a period of five years, with tenders now open for applications. Interested parties must submit a bid security of MVR 252,000, and the deadline for submitting bids is 16th February at 13:00 hrs. The opening of the bids will take place the following day.
This announcement follows a similar call made by NSPA in June of last year, when it sought a building for its operations. At that time, three floors were leased from a building owned by the family of former minister Ahmed Thasmeen Ali. However, these floors were also rented by MMTV’s Maldives Media House.
The decision to lease the space came under public scrutiny after the NSPA tender board opted to award the lease despite Maldives Media House being the only party to submit applications in response to the ministry’s tender call. The lease was set to begin in August, with a total rent amount of MVR 34.8 million, but it was ultimately cancelled following widespread criticism.
Currently, NSPA is operating from Mookai Suites. However, the agency has previously stated that the building is in poor condition and requires repairs. NSPA indicated that it needed to vacate the premises in December.
