First Female Officer Named Best All-Round Student in Maldives Police Training

Constable Imsha Abdul Latheef from G.Dh. Fiyoari has become the first female officer in the Maldives to be named Best All-Round Student of a police basic training course.

Imsha received the top honour at the 41st Police Initial Training Course (PITC), which successfully trained 185 recruits. She joined the Maldives Police Service on 1 December 2023 and completed her A-Level studies in 2019 at G.A. Gemanafushi School.

The award was presented at a ceremony on Monday evening, attended by Home Minister Ali Ihusaan and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen. Minister Ihusaan described Imsha’s achievement as a historic milestone in police training and acknowledged the support of her family and island community.

The PITC ceremony also recognised four other female officers with top awards, highlighting increased gender representation among high-performing recruits. The five female awardees were Imsha Abdul Latheef, Maryam Laasha Adam, Aiminath Samra, Maryam Lu’lu’a Mohamed, and Alya Ahmed.

Commissioner Naveen emphasised the importance of discipline and integrity in uniform, urging all officers to uphold the values of the service. He noted that 35 female officers had completed the course, reflecting growing female participation in law enforcement.
