First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised the need for food outlets and vendors to provide healthy options that complement awareness efforts promoting good dietary habits.

She made the remarks at a ceremony held yesterday to inaugurate a national preventative healthcare campaign, Dhulhaheyo Dhiriulhun, Ufaaveri Mujuthamau, in Kaafu Atoll, Guraidhoo

According to the President’s Office, the First Lady noted that while information on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is widely shared, the societal factors contributing to such conditions must also be addressed. She added that while physical activity and exercise are strongly encouraged, individuals must be supported to make time for these practices in their daily lives.

Highlighting the importance of a national movement to raise awareness about the health risks associated with poor lifestyle choices, the First Lady said that adopting positive habits is key to a healthy and happy life. She further observed that Islam advocates sound health and balanced living, noting that the Holy Quran encourages the consumption of halal and wholesome food.

“The diligent lifestyle and sound dietary habits of Muslims can help maintain the Maldives as a happy and healthy nation,” she said, urging all citizens to take part in the campaign for the benefit of future generations.

The Dhulhaheyo Dhiriulhun, Ufaaveri Mujuthamau campaign aims to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the prevalence of diseases linked to diet and inactivity. The initiative will introduce sustainable public health activities across all islands, targeting children, youth, women, and the elderly.

Three awards — the Rashu Award, School Award, and Jamiyyaa Award — will also recognise institutions and communities that contribute effectively to public health promotion.

The event was attended by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, Maafushi MP Hussain Riza Adam, senior health officials, and Guraidhoo residents.
