First Lady Calls on Healthcare Professionals to Strengthen Newborn Care

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has urged healthcare professionals nationwide to unite in improving care for newborns.
Speaking at the opening of the two-day Neonatal Nurses Conference 2025 at Dharumavantha Hospital this morning, the First Lady reflected on the Maldives’ history of neonatal care, acknowledging the field’s journey through significant challenges. She praised the dedication of medical staff and highlighted the urgent need for enhanced investment in facilities, resources, and specialised expertise.
“The rapid pace of technological advancement is transforming healthcare, and innovations in neonatal care can play a crucial role in saving lives,” she said. “Conferences like this provide vital platforms to explore and implement these technologies in the Maldives.”

Connecting her remarks to the conference theme, the First Lady emphasised that progress in neonatal care impacts all Maldivians and called for collaborative efforts to ensure the conference outcomes are translated into practice.
The opening ceremony was also attended by officials from the Malé City Group of Hospitals.
