First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has described women as the driving force behind the revitalisation and continued strength of any nation. She made the remarks while addressing the Rehendhi Award 2024–2025 ceremony held last night.

Reflecting on the influence of mothers, the First Lady said that every individual’s first teacher, guide, and source of refuge is their mother. She noted that women bear the responsibility of nurturing individuals of strong moral character who can contribute meaningfully to national development, and urged women to recognise the enduring significance of this role.

She also highlighted the expanding domestic, professional, and social responsibilities of women, stressing the need for technological skills, entrepreneurial innovation, and readiness for emerging political opportunities. She added that Maldivian women have historically been educated, discerning, and fully capable of fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to them across generations.

The First Lady extended her congratulations and best wishes to all honourees, noting that the Rehendhi Award celebrates the abilities, resilience, and achievements of Maldivian women across diverse fields.

Fourteen women and one nonprofit organisation received the Rehendhi Award for 2024–2025. The First Lady presented the recipients with awards and commemorative brooches in recognition of their contributions.

Conferred by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Rehendhi Award recognises women who have made exemplary contributions across key sectors of national service, as well as individuals and organisations working to advance gender equality and protect women’s rights in the Maldives.
