First Lady Sajidha Mohamed inaugurated the National Mental Health Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029 yesterday at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health.
The plan outlines a range of measures to strengthen the mental health system in the Maldives over the next five years. It focuses on enhancing mental health services, expanding treatment facilities, and promoting overall mental well-being.
Key components of the plan include integrating mental health services into primary healthcare, raising awareness and support for mental health, formulating policies, standards, and guidelines, improving the skills of healthcare professionals, and tackling prejudice against mental illness, including efforts to eliminate stigma. It prioritises the mental health of people across various age groups, particularly children, the elderly, and other vulnerable populations. The plan also encourages collaboration among all stakeholders to create a society of mentally strong and capable individuals.
