Stressing the centrality of education to societal development, the First Lady noted that investing in Maafushi School’s educational infrastructure lays a solid foundation for the island’s future prosperity. She also underscored the wider community benefits of the donation, extending its positive effects beyond the school’s walls.

The First Lady concluded her speech by extending heartfelt thanks to the People’s Republic of China, Governor Wang Yubo of Yunnan Province, and Ambassador Wang Lixin and the Chinese Embassy for their generous support and assistance in facilitating the donation.

Two agreements involving sports and education were signed between Maldives and Yunnan Province during the Governor Wang Yubo’s official visit to the Maldives last year.

The sports equipment given to Maafushi School is the latest donation under the Yunnan Hand-in-Hand Programs in the Maldives; In 2023, Governor Wang Yubo and Ambassador Wang Lixin attended the handover ceremony of Yunnan Hand in Hand Programs in Maldives held in Himmafushi Island, whereby solar street lamps were donated to the island.
