First Lounge Opens at Velana International Airport’s New Terminal

The first lounge at Velana International Airport’s new terminal, “Koveli,” was opened yesterday.

The facility was inaugurated by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director Ibrahim Mohamed Shareef at a ceremony held in the terminal’s departure area. Senior officials from MACL, the Economic Ministry and airline representatives were also in attendance.

MACL stated that tourism, travel and hospitality form the backbone of the Maldivian economy, with Velana International Airport serving as the key hub supporting these industries. The company acknowledged the contribution of its employees in developing and operating the airport, describing their efforts as a national service.

The new lounge, located on the second floor of the terminal, covers 1,230 square metres and can accommodate up to 270 passengers. It is equipped with a range of modern facilities, including a children’s play area, buffet service, shower rooms, baby care areas and dedicated spaces for passengers with special needs.
