Fish Market Area Closed Until Road Construction Is Complete

MV+ News Desk | December 22, 2025

The Maldives Police Service has closed the road from the fish market to Atoll Shops in front of North Harbor to general traffic from midnight tonight, citing ongoing construction work on the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Authorities closed the area after completing the first section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu and began development of the second section. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) manages the project.

In a traffic chart shared on X, police said the closure covers the stretch from the fish market to the former STO People’s Choice shop.

Meanwhile, residents have raised concerns about the removal of trees along streets near the shops. Several social media users have voiced concerns and shared photos of the trees being uprooted and cut down.

The section between the fish market and Jetty Number One under the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project reopened on Monday, 8th December, after a three-month closure.

Authorities have expanded the road to four lanes to improve access for pedestrians and drivers in the area.
