The primary objective of the workshop is to discuss strategies for promoting recreational fishing in a sustainable manner. Registration is open until 1 June, with interested individuals required to complete and submit an online form. Participation will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to the availability of slots.

The Ministry has stated that it will provide transportation, accommodation, and meals for all selected participants. Additional information about the workshop is available through the Ministry’s contact number, 3339229.

Recreational fishing has gained popularity among Maldivian youth in recent years. In response to this growing interest, the government has identified five locations for the development of sports fishing ports. These ports will be equipped with fish stalls, administrative offices for organising competitions, restaurants and cafés, fishing gear shops, and barbecue facilities.

The government is also working to expand both sport fishing and grouper fishing activities. These efforts form part of broader plans to develop the fisheries sector, diversify economic activities, and increase revenue generated from marine resources.
