The programme, which began on 18 May, is scheduled to continue until 22 May.
Designed to combine technical knowledge with practical application, the training offers hands-on experience in producing a range of value-added fish products. Participants are receiving detailed guidance from ministry-appointed technical experts on various product categories, as well as instruction in core business strategies. The training aims to provide the competencies required to operate small commercial ventures successfully.
Fifteen individuals are enrolled in the programme, including 14 women and one man. The sessions are led by experienced professionals, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with industry specialists and build expertise in both production and entrepreneurship.
The initiative in Kudafari forms part of a wider national effort to modernise and diversify the Maldives’ fishing industry. According to the ministry, similar training activities are being carried out across multiple islands, reflecting the government’s commitment to increasing the share of locally caught fish that is processed into value-added products for export. Strengthening this segment of the sector is seen as a key step towards enhancing international competitiveness and supporting long-term sustainability.
